Time to call it a day

The aim of this blog was to rant, moan and murmur about everything in the morocco surf trips and star surf camps world. Both businesses are doing well, so well in fact I simply wont have the time to dedicate to such a blog as much as I should to keep it fresh, interesting and regularly updated. Therefore until blogger remove this I will leave it online mostly for myself to read back on past musings. Blogger it has been fun. Thank you.

Remember to keep up to date on whats going on in France and Morocco plus the additional 3 surf camps opening in 2012 check our websites www.starsurfcamps.com and www.thesurfhostel.com

Binge-tastic

In the last month I have achieved (if you can call it an achievement) going out 5/7 nights each week, this has resulted in some behavior a little out of the ordinary for myself including a huge tattoo, sleeping through surfing opportunities and spending way too much time in bed with facebook in the background and G.Ramsey swearing at me via 4OD. I also discovered the perfect hangover food. Chicken Kiev, potato waffles and enough ketchup to hide the lot under....today I needed this twice. Good times.

Good to be Home

It's good to be home, great food, acceptable weather and despite no surf, great fun. Seen so many old faces over the last 2 weeks it seems like a non stop reunion. Although I have spent my total 8 week budget in the last 2 weeks (resulting in me getting some weekend bar work) I'm looking forward to another 6 weeks of catch ups, family time and hopefully a couple of surfs at my local breaks. I don't tend to miss much when I'm abroad but the moment I'm home I certainly realize what I have been missing out on.

Broadband
Bowling
Casinos
Nans Cake
Dogs that don't have rabies and scabs
A full fridge
Parents' stash of alcohol
Roads you can skate on
Friends (and their babies)
My vinyl collection

Another pleasant surprise was London, my perception of London was completely flip reversed, as before I could never envisage living away from the ocean, this time round I was completely immersed in the buzz and everything else London has to offer. London and Taghazout are certainly chalk and cheese but for the few months I'm in the UK each year I could certainly spend a little more time there. I'll be off to France in 6 weeks and will be there for the duration of the season (5 months with the exception of an old friends wedding), then UK for 2 weeks, Morocco for 3 months, Sri Lanka for 2 and then 2 months somewhere yet to be decided. I feel I'm over the traveling a little and certainly over living out of a suitcase (I say suitcase but mean board bag) yet I know my lifestyle will soon catch up to all my friends back home and I'll be engaged, mortgaged and with children on the way very soon so I think I'll bust out at least one more stint.

Big Waves

I recently came to the conclusion I do not like big waves. Perhaps this is sheer laziness due to the Moroccan temptations or the fact my surfing and physical build is suited to smaller waves. Regardless I have no choice but to surf not only big - but MASSIVE waves this week. (Notice the capitalization of massive to reinforce my point).

Today was big, around 3 metres at 14 seconds, it floats around the 3.5 mark all week until Thursday when we are going to wake to 6.5 metres at 17 seconds....Ill either have the best surf of my life or come back tail between my legs with hopefully myself, my board and leash all in one piece.

Money Box

It all comes down to money. 25 years old and the most limiting factor in my life is money. I have managed to fashion a "job" for myself that allows me to surf and travel but at what point does traveling become simply commuting to work? Morocco, 7 subsequent years, France 4 and Indo 4 trips in 6 years. I have been blessed to meet some of the kindest, most welcoming people and have made friends for life in many of the countries I have visited but cant help feel the traveling stopped years ago when these places became a place of work - all due to the fact I needed a lifestyle that combined work with surfing...yet the only reason "work" factors into the equation is to get paid. Sometimes I catch myself being envious of my guests who have a secure job, decent wage and enough holiday that they travel the world intermittently living in luxury and surfing new places, no recycling of trips, no daily budget, just good times and a needed escape from the day to day grind. My grind is a lot less then many people my age pursuing a career yet I (I know I sound like a spoiled brat) need a trip unrelated to business and purely for pleasure. I have somehow built a box for myself, one wall the UK, one Bali, one France and the other Morocco. It's a happy little box but a box all the same. I'm not sure where, with who, or when my next trip will be but it has to be imminent and it has to be somewhere unique.

Cuba?
Equador?
India?

Perhaps Bournemouth.
